At daybreak after the battle at Fische the band decides to ask Sir Taurian regarding the services of Sir Manwell’s retinue moving forward. With Sir Manwell, Raenius, and Arlan making their way towards the encampment of Sir Taurian finding that Aleksander had decided to spend the night with Sir Taurian. Once more, the party began to converse regarding what they could do.
Sir Taurian asked Sir Manwell in regards, if he could provide more men to aid in the effort to take Eisenberg. Ser Manwell had his blood ties up north by the settlement of Wydäck, so the party decided to attempt to contact them for aid. Ser Taurian, ever-so generous, loans the party a commandeered fishing vessel, which can seat 16 men and their provisions, to sail across the sea. With their transportation to move across the sea now secured the vessel now requires someone to navigate and voyage it across towards Wydäck. Alexander and Arlan decide to take it upon themselves to secure a seafarer and provisions for the journey.
Meeting a fisherman named Wākrōs, who would have an awful stutter, unloading their vessel of their catch that day Alexander negotiated with him to provide both the expertise and the provisions in sailing towards Wydäck for 2 pence a day for their expertise, and 75 pence for the provisions(That of being smoked mackerel) for 5 days. With their means of transportation, the personnel for it, and provisions secured the party just waited for the provisions to be smoked. In the meantime, the band had spotted a peculiarly brown-skinned merchant docked upon the beach deciding to introduce, and trade if there was anything that could assist them in the journey ahead.
The trader introduced themselves as Saif kesva Sud. Their wares included various exotic items: An amber-brooch which apparently senses the danger around a person for 1£, a helmet worn by great warriors for 2£, and a half-sheaf of defrocking arrows for 2s per arrow. Alexander decided to buy 5 of the arrows in the hopes they may be useful. The party was now well-stocked, prepared as they could be, and with a new companion they ventured forth towards Wydäck. Their journey was met with a storm, however, the skillful seafaring ability of Wākrōs allowed them to venture without much more issues.
With the arrival of the party at the port, the party set forth to find the blood family of Sir Manwell. With much luck, they had seen a well-dressed Nordsman and his retinue preparing their own ship for a voyage, hoping they had understood Imperial and knew of the ruling family of the settlement. Introducing themselves upon one another, they had realized that they were in fact the people the party was looking for! The men loading up the boat was Ser Manwell’s cousin, Sir Sigurd Rurikson, and his retinue! Being treated with much hospitality upon arrival to their longhouse, Ser Manwell handled the negotiations in regards to preparing reinforcements to aid the Pilzstein’s cause. Sir Sigurd with his retinue of 8 men, comprising 2 Huscarls and Karls, pledged his support in exchange for 2/3rds the spoils. Agreeing to this, they had started to make plans to set out towards Eisenburg.
The journey towards Eisenburg was an uneventful one. Arriving near the shores of it, they had noticed that the siege was going quite well! With the slaughter at Fische, they had been unable to call much help or stock the walls with much provisions. So, the party unloaded and met up once more with Sir Taurian, who seemed less than pleased at the mere 12 men that were summoned. However, it was still at the least appreciated, they worry of being surrounded by the various vassals and allies that may come and fight them.
Deciding that the spoils and the time saved to be worthy. Sir Sigurd and Sir Manwell decided that a night infiltration to capture the town, through the north seaside gate, and open the southern gate would be perhaps possible. Bringing their plan to Sir Taurian, who provided 42 hogsheads of fish and the fishing vessel, it was decided that it would be a worthy gamble. Was it idiocy? Unbound confidence? Or just a fool's plan. In preparation for this plan, both retinues prayed for their success in their endeavour.
With the night falling, they set forth. Venturing into the sea and then returning just outside of the gate. They would be spotted. Sir Sigurd, introducing himself as a representative of his father, Rurik Olafson, and a willing benefactor to the besieged men of Eisenburg. After some waiting, a man by the name of Markvart, the Count of Eisenburg personal page, introduced himself and negotiated the trade with Sir Sigurd. While this was happening the page had relayed the information to the Count.
In a bout of unluckiness, and the party’s previous contract once more biting them in the foot, they were identified as men who had desecrated a holy artifact by smuggling it! That damned Carter could not even be of use, even in death. They had resisted and tried to negotiate, fast talk, and diplomatically solve the issue- Before realizing that the punishment was only imprisonment. With the punishment being quite lenient, Sir Manwell and his retinue had decided to turn themselves in. In the hopes that Sir Sigurd could release them.
Author's Notes
Gaabriel was not able to join us this session and we had now met Ptolemy’s character! Who was a replacement for Das. Only time will tell how the party dynamics have now shifted. The game has taken quite the turn from what I was expecting from CMercs, even joking now that it’s CRetinue now. We can only hope that next session we won’t have to reroll new character sheets.
GM's Notes
Getting the English as a Second Language guy to write my recap maybe wasn't the best idea; I spent some time editing this! Jokes aside, this was a fun session, and due to my attention being elsewhere for this weekend, it turned into a multi-week cliffhanger! Will they die? We will see...
