The group continued their battle. Arlan, Raenius, Gaabriel, and Manwell fought valiantly hand to hand, while Das used his Magicks to surround the foes with dirt. Aleksander jumped through the air with spins and flips onto a rock, and shot many arrows at the undead. At one point, Aleks dropped his bow, and it hit the stone he stood on in such a way that it snapped its bowstring.
Eventually, Das managed to Entomb one under the earth using his Magicks, and the others were finished off by the party, though Arlan and Raenius took minor damage. Das, once again, used his Magick to heal the injured, in combination with his First-Aid.
After all the events post-combat were taken care of, during a discussion about what the monsters were and their motives, Raenius lunged towards the package that Arlan held, which the party were couriers for. He shouted something about wanting to see what was inside. After a short scuffle, involving Raenius pointing his spear at the half-Jötunn, the raging Imperial was wrestled to the ground by dogs.
Eventually he was calmed down. The group then beheaded the men, dug up the one who was buried, and took their weapons. Quite scandalous! After they took time to catch their breath, the company was quickly back on the proverbial road. The recent cold snap had finally broke, the skies cleared, and the sun was shining down onto the company. The temperatures warmed up as well, though the wind still gave a light chill.
As the party came to a riverbank at nightfall, where they set up camp, they saw around eight figures in the distance, clad in tattoos and wielding spears. One or two had bows, and one carried a torch. Immediately, Raenius, who was on watch, began shouting and making a real clamor with his shield and spear. As they got closer, the company got into loose formation, as they approached across the river.
As bows were drawn and a fight was brewing, Das spoke up, saying something in a language no one understood. However, the tribesmen did. The tribesmen spoke in soft voices, and were covered in blond hair. They had dreadlocks and scruffy beards, and lots of body hair elsewhere, and anywhere that wasn't covered with hair was covered in swirling blue tattoos.
After their leader finished explaining something to Das, he turned around and spoke to the party. Their leader was also covered in tattoos, but had red hair, and was shorter than the rest, but more muscular. Das explained that they owned these lands, they being the Eagle Tribe, and requested to spend the night with the company. In return, they invite them to partake in smoking of Prailflower, as part of a ritual, now that Summer has started to show itself.
The group agreed. Everyone smoked, except Das. Aleksander got very high, and said he saw many visions of the future, and got a skill bonus in the next combat. They partied into the night, and they woke up very rested. The Tribesmen helped them across the river, and then they continued along their way. They noted that their leader, Luti the Red, would help them if they came through the area again.
Finally, with one day of travel left, they could see Pilzstein on the horizon. They continued on their hike, and eventually, by nightfall, they made it to Pilzstein. They took a break to watch the sunset, which gave a orange-yellow hue to the sky, a beautiful sight.
Rolling up to the gate, the group talked to the guards, who inquired about where they were coming from and what their business was. Someone blurted out that they were carrying a package, and they asked to see it. After some failed persuasion, the guards said that they would bring down Sir Taurian von Pilzstein tomorrow, who was in town for a tournament. The group were also told to spend the night outside the town.
As they departed and set up camp outside the tower, the group noticed that a group of three men in black cloaks were on the outer bailey. They took careful watch of the group. No one could quite figure why. On the morrow, as they prepared to head back to the gates, they noticed that Das and his hounds, Hondje and Stridjer were nowhere to be seen. Most of his equipment was still in camp, including his saddlebags, but him and his dogs were missing.
GM's Notes
These guys have a serious case of the Sunken Cost Fallacy. Seriously. We had an entire 15 minute conversation about it after the session. Also, I did a stupid thing and forgot that I hadn't posted this until the day before the game. Whoops. Also, due to some changes to the systems of Magic, Das "departed" the party.
